The European Parliament’s Subcommittee on Human Rights (DROI), in collaboration with the Legislative Dialogue Unit of the Directorate for Relations with National Parliaments, is organising an interparliamentary committee meeting with national parliaments on the topic: "Coordination between the EU and its Member States in Strengthening the EU’s Role at the UN and Exchanging Best Practices in the Human Rights Field."
The meeting aims to explore strategies for enhancing and supporting the EU's role at the UN level while facilitating the exchange of best practices in the field of human rights.

Zusammenfassung:

18. März 2025 – Die Finalisierung der Banken- und Kapitalmarktunion steht schon lange auf der Agenda diverser Bundesregierungen. Sie wurde aber immer wieder verzögert. Der überraschende Vorstoß der italienischen Bank Unicredit, die deutsche Commerzbank zu übernehmen, machte Ende letzten Jahres deutlich, wie wichtig es ist, die Bankenunion voranzutreiben. Eine solche Bankenunion würde nicht nur dazu beitragen, ein widerstandsfähigeres Finanzsystem zu schaffen, um für die nächste Krise gewappnet zu sein. Durch mehr Wettbewerb der europäischen Banken würde sie auch die Finanzierungskosten für Unternehmen reduzieren. Berechnungen zeigen, dass jede Zinssenkung um zehn Basispunkte die Investitionen in Deutschland um fünf Prozent steigern würde. Die neue Bundesregierung könnte also mit einem Ende ihrer Blockadehaltung zur Bankenunion auch die heimische Wirtschaft ankurbeln.

On 8 December 2024, the Assad regime in Syria was overthrown by a rebel alliance led by Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS). The transitional government under Ahmad al-Sharaa now faces enormous economic, social and political challenges. It has yet to establish control over the country as a whole; and jihadist groups such as the so-called Islamic State (IS) continue to pose a threat, as do (potential) insurgents linked to the former regime, among other groups. At the same time, the actions of various regional and international actors risk destabilising Syria or sabotaging the transition already under way. Regardless of whether that risk materialises, it is these external forces that are setting the bounds of the new rulers’ room for manoeuvre. For its part, the interim government has started to lay off most members of the former regime’s Syrian Arab Army and disband militias. It has also struck a deal with the Kurdish-dominated Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) about their integration into the new Syrian army and embarked on a political transition. Germany and its EU partners should support an inclusive transition process and help facilitate the comprehensive reconstruction of the country, not least by easing sanctions. Indeed, it is essential that geopolitical tensions surrounding Syria be de-escalated rather than exacerbated.

Die Abteilung Forschungsinfrastruktur (FI) umfasst die Servicebereiche Informationstechnik (IT) und Bibliothek sowie den Service- und Forschungsbereich Forschungsdatenmanagement (FDM). Die Forschungsinfrastruktur ist Impulsgeber für innovative datengetriebene empirische Forschung am DIW Berlin innerhalb der Leibniz-Gemeinschaft. Die Hauptaufgabe der Abteilung ist die Erbringung von internen Dienstleistungen sowie die öffentliche Bereitstellung von Forschungsdaten in Forschungsdatenzentren wie dem Forschungsdatenzentrum Betriebs- und Organisationsdaten (FDZ-BO) gemäß den FAIR-Prinzipien, der Leibniz-Leitlinie Forschungsdaten und der DIW Data Policy.

Zusätzlich werden Forschungs- und Entwicklungsaktivitäten durchgeführt, um das FI-Dienstleistungsportfolio kontinuierlich weiterzuentwickeln und zusätzliche Datenquellen zu erschließen.
