Debate: Asylum seeking in the Netherlands: Systematically unfair

A group of experts from the University of Nijmegen has sharply criticised the Dutch asylum system. In its report, which was commissioned by the state, it concludes that people have been falsely portrayed as fraudsters and lost their residence permits as a result. It also says that the legislation of recent years has increasingly weakened the position of asylum seekers. Commentators call for solutions.

Debate: Romania: Covid patients die in a container

Three Covid-19 patients who were being treated in a container installed outside a hospital in Bucharest have died, presumably due to a malfunction of the oxygen supply systems to which they were connected. The containers were purchased in April last year to take some of the strain off overcrowded hospitals. Commentators say the incident is just the tip of the iceberg.

Highlights - AFET and INTA to vote on EU-UK agreement on 15 April - Committee on Foreign Affairs

In the afternoon of 15 April, the Committees on Foreign Affairs (AFET) and on International Trade (INTA) will vote on their joint recommendation to the plenary on the EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement. The Trade and Cooperation Agreement defines the framework for the European Union's future cooperation with the United Kingdom after its withdrawal from the block.
The Agreement has been applied provisionally since the beginning of this year. Parliament's consent is required for it to enter into force officially.

The timing of the plenary vote still remains to be decided.
