The partnership between the EU and The Gambia is guided by the principles and objectives found in the Cotonou Agreement, which governs the relationship between the EU and African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) countries. The Agreement covers areas such as political dialogue, trade and development cooperation.

The Common Security and defence Policy (CSDP) will be strongly impacted by the imminent divorce between the United Kingdom (UK) and the European Union (EU), for better or for worse. What tomorrow will bring is nevertheless still unknown. The Brexit negotiations in the area of defence were supposed to be easier and more consensual than in other fields. It does not seem to have been the case so far. The first part of the study focuses on the terms of the equation. They analyse: the new interest of the United Kingdom for the CSDP, the proposal made by the UK to the EU in this area, how the EU has answered so far and what are the existing rules and practices allowing the involvement of third counties in the EU defence policies. The following part examines the potential impact of Brexit on the most promising defence policies that the EU is presently carrying out: the support to the defence industry, PESCO, the Galileo and Copernicus programs and, naturally, the CSDP missions. Finally, this study reviews the EU options on the table of one of the most difficult negotiations in contemporary history.

At the final press conference, President Tusk presented the main results of the EU-Western Balkans summit and the Leaders' agenda dinner held in Sofia

The EU-Western Balkans summit took place in Sofia, Bulgaria, on 17 May 2018. EU leaders agreed on the Sofia declaration, with which the Western Balkans partners have aligned themselves.

Upon his arrival in Sofia, President Tusk outlined the main topics for discussion: Western Balkans summit, innovation and digital, Iran and US trade.

The European Union reaffirms its commitment to combat all forms of discrimination and hate crime, on the grounds of sexual orientation, gender identity and sex characteristics, and to continue to actively promote and protect the human rights of LGBTI persons.

President Donald Tusk addressed a letter and the Leaders' Agenda note on innovation and the digital economy to the 28 heads of state or government before their meetings in Sofia.

The EU and Tunisia have published a joint press statement on the occasion of the 14th meeting of the EU-Tunisia Association Council, held in Brussels on 15 May 2018.

The Council added five persons to the EU's sanctions list over actions against Ukraine's territorial integrity.

The EU and Algeria have published a joint press statement on the occasion of the 11th session of the EU-Algeria Association Council which was held on 14 May 2018 in Brussels.

The Council adopted strengthened EU rules to prevent money laundering and terrorist financing, following an agreement with the European Parliament.

The Council extended the mission for two years and amended its mandate to include support for the operationalisation of the G5 Sahel Joint Force.

The Council adopted a decision allowing for the creation of a crime information cell within EUNAVFOR MED Operation Sophia.

The Council adopted the effort sharing regulation which sets out binding emission reduction targets for member states.

The Council approved a regulation on greenhouse gas emissions and removals from land use and forestry in the 2030 climate & energy framework (LULUCF).
